A powerful typhoon struck northern Philippines overnight, causing at least two deaths, injuries to two others, and cutting off several towns. Over one million people had been evacuated before the storm made landfall in the eastern part of Luzon, bringing strong winds, heavy rain, and storm surges. The typhoon damaged houses, toppled trees, and knocked down electric posts in affected areas. Landslides and damaged roads left at least three towns inaccessible, as residents began assessing the destruction after a sleepless night.
