Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has called on Dominicans to remain calm in light of reports suggesting the possibility of U.S. visa restrictions.
Speaking during a press conference on Monday, the Prime Minister said the government has not received any official notice from the United States regarding visa bans, but has already begun proactive engagement to clarify and respond to concerns.
He assured citizens that holders of valid U.S. visas can continue to travel for business, study, or vacation as usual.
Among the concerns raised by the U.S. are the illegal overstaying of visas by Dominicans and certain practices under the Citizenship by Investment program—specifically the ability of applicants to change their names.
The Ministry of National Security has also reminded citizens not to overstay their time in the U.S. and encouraged undocumented Dominicans abroad to cooperate with authorities for voluntary repatriation.
