Dominica’s Head of State, Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, is in New York this week representing the country at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Assembly is being held under the theme “Better Together: 80 years and more for Peace, Development and Human Rights.” President Burton is scheduled to address world leaders on Thursday, September 25th, where she will highlight pressing global challenges, including poverty, inequality, climate change, and the decline of multilateral cooperation. She is also expected to stress the disproportionate impact of conflict, sanctions, and trade restrictions on Small Island Developing States like Dominica. President Burton is leading Dominica’s delegation, which includes Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Vince Henderson and the country’s representatives to the United Nations. During her absence, Her Excellency Josette Matthew will serve as Acting President of the Commonwealth of Dominica.
