Authorities have launched a major investigation into the large-scale importation of illegal firearms and ammunition into Dominica, with officials confirming multiple interceptions at the island’s ports of entry.
Acting Chief of Police Lincoln Corbett revealed during a press conference on Monday that between January and mid-June, 42 firearms and over 200 rounds of ammunition were seized at Dominica’s ports of entry. An additional 7 firearms were recovered through local police operations, bringing the total to 49 firearms and 289 rounds removed from circulation.

Meantime, Minister for National Security Rayburn Blackmoore revealed that a sophisticated syndicate is believed to be behind the trafficking operation.
Minister Blackmoore also highlighted the government’s $2.7 million investment in new scanners now operational at all ports of entry, enhancing the nation’s ability to detect firearms and component parts.
