The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that the 2025/26 white potato season is officially getting an early start. A shipment of more than eleven hundred bags of high-performing seed potatoes—Desiree and Spunta varieties—has arrived on island. The Plant Quarantine Unit will soon begin testing the seeds to ensure they meet quality and disease-free standards. Once assessments are complete, sales to farmers are expected to begin by mid-November. Crop establishment is set to run from December through January, with harvesting expected between March and April next year. Farmers are encouraged to pre-register with their Extension Officer or local Service Centre to secure inputs and technical support for the upcoming season.
