The Dominica Police Force has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on illegal firearms following an arrest made during Independence Carnival celebrations on Tuesday, November 4th. Police say 20-year-old Zendel Etienne of Loubiere was found with a black Taurus 9mm pistol, its serial number obliterated, along with 12 rounds of ammunition concealed on his person. Etienne was also charged with giving a false name to the police. He appeared before a magistrate on Friday, November 7th, where he pleaded guilty to all offences and was sentenced to three years in prison. The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force has commended the officers involved for their vigilance, noting that efforts continue to rid the streets of illegal firearms and keep Dominica safe for all.
