The Government of Dominica has handed over 11 new fishing vessels to fishers, strengthening the island’s fishing industry and supporting local livelihoods. The boats, built locally and valued at nearly half a million Eastern Caribbean dollars, are part of the Emergency Agriculture, Livelihood and Climate Resilience Project, which aims to rebuild the sector after Hurricane Maria. Officials say the vessels are designed to be resilient and seaworthy, helping fishers increase their catch and safety at sea. Parliamentary Representative for Soufriere, Denise Charles Pemberton, highlighted plans for a new fish processing plant to boost local exports. Meanwhile Finance Minister Dr. Irving McIntyre praised the resilience of fishers and reaffirmed continued investment in fisheries infrastructure.
