The Government of Dominica has announced the creation of 26 new specialist medical posts, aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and improving job security for medical professionals at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital. Minister for Health, Wellness and Social Services, Cassanni Laville, said the move will provide greater stability for specialist doctors, many of whom previously worked on short-term contracts, while also expanding opportunities for medical officers to advance within the public health system. The announcement was made during the government’s Focus on Government and Development programme, where Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Dominica Hospitals Authority, Kenneth Darroux, explained that the new posts will improve continuity of care, reduce staff uncertainty, and enhance patient outcomes at the hospital. The initiative forms part of wider reforms to strengthen hospital governance, retain skilled healthcare workers, and ensure consistent, high-quality care for patients across Dominica.
