Dominica’s Calypso Monarch Eyes Regional Crown

Dominica’s 2025 Calypso Monarch, Joy Stoute (stage name Joy), will represent the country at the Queen of Queens Regional Female Calypso Competition in Montserrat on December 30, during the island’s 2025 Carnival. Hosted by the Montserrat Arts Council, the competition brings together leading female calypsonians from across the Caribbean and is judged on lyrics, music, rendition, and stage presence. Joy will perform her award-winning songs “My Quest for Love” and “The Ground We Walking On,” expressing pride in carrying Dominica’s culture to a regional stage. She emphasized the importance of regional exposure for preserving calypso, citing challenges facing the artform, and acknowledged support from the Dominica Calypso Association. Dominica has a strong history in the competition, with Shanice Langford representing the island in 2024 and Tasha Peltier finishing first runner-up in 2022. Confident and determined, Joy aims to secure Dominica’s first Queen of Queens title.
