The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and the Blue and Green Economy, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, has launched an advanced drone and geospatial training program aimed at transforming agricultural monitoring and disaster risk management in Dominica.
In partnership with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, the Ministry has launched an advanced 10-week drone and geospatial analysis training program.
Twelve participants—including six drone pilots and six geospatial analysts—will receive high-level training in drone mapping, multispectral imaging, and GIS analysis.
The initiative builds on the Ministry’s existing drone team and aims to support smarter agricultural planning and disaster response.

The program will culminate in the presentation of Capstone Projects featuring drone mapping results from key agricultural sites. These outputs are expected to serve as national benchmarks and guide future agricultural and environmental strategies.
The FAO-supported initiative is part of Dominica’s broader effort to modernize the sector and increase its contribution to the national economy by 2030. Final outcomes will be shared with stakeholders across the Eastern Caribbean to support regional adoption of drone technologies.
