Boston honors Dominica’s culture and global diaspora with special flag-raising ceremony at City Hall Plaza

The City of Boston honored Dominica’s rich culture and global diaspora with a special flag-raising ceremony at City Hall Plaza on Friday, officially proclaimed by Mayor Michelle Wu as “Dominica Day.” The event, organized by the Mayor’s Office of Arts & Culture alongside Dominican community leaders, featured prayer, spoken word, and the national anthem before the Dominica flag was raised in a moment of unity and pride. Consul Sheldon Peter Anthony shared the history and symbolism of the flag, while city officials highlighted the strong contributions of Dominican residents across Greater Boston. Several distinguished community members were also awarded City of Boston Citations for their leadership and service. Attendees enjoyed Dominican food, art, and cultural displays celebrating the island’s heritage and its vibrant presence in Boston.
