Environment Minister Cozier Frederick has called on his parliamentary colleagues to ensure that the development of communities across Dominica includes the creation and protection of green spaces.
The Dominica Hospitals Authority officially launched the Adopt-a-Planter initiative today, coinciding with World Environment Day. This program aims to enhance green spaces around the Dominica China Friendship Hospital, fostering a healing environment and encouraging community involvement through public-private partnerships.
Speaking at this morning’s ceremony hosted by the Dominica Hospitals Authority, Minister Frederick reminded fellow policymakers that while infrastructure such as roads, buildings, and modern homes are important, the environmental health of communities must not be overlooked.
He cautioned against the increasing trend of clearing trees and vegetation simply because they obstruct views or are deemed inconvenient. Instead, he urged his colleagues to take deliberate steps to preserve the island’s natural environment, especially at the constituency level.
