Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley Calls for Regional Solidarity to Tackle Caribbean Challenges

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley is calling for stronger Caribbean unity to tackle shared challenges across the region.
Speaking at the 70th anniversary celebration of the Dominica Labour Party on Sunday, Prime Minister Mottley urged Caribbean nations to come together in the face of climate change, economic pressures, and global instability.
She pointed to the region’s growing vulnerability to natural disasters—like the hurricanes that have devastated Dominica in recent years—and said no country can face these threats alone.

Mottley also called for joint financial strategies—like collective procurement and better borrowing terms—to help Caribbean nations invest in infrastructure and reduce costs on essentials like water piping and school supplies.
Looking beyond the region, the Barbadian leader proposed deeper partnerships with African, Latin American, and Pacific nations to amplify the Caribbean’s voice on the global stage—especially in the fight for climate justice.
