$500M Upgrade Planned for Portsmouth–Hatton Garden Road

The government is moving ahead with plans to rebuild the Portsmouth–Hatton Garden road. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says a Chinese technical team will arrive this Friday to begin assessments for the upgrade. The planned works include the construction of 26 new bridges and more than 470 culverts, along with significant widening, stabilization, and retaining structures along the route. According to the Prime Minister, the project is expected to cost over 500 million dollars and will be funded through a grant from the Chinese government. Prime Minister Skerrit says the overhaul is necessary because the existing road, built in the late 1980s, was designed only to provide basic river crossings and now requires a comprehensive modernization.
