Dominicans today join the global community in observing Universal Children’s Day, under the theme “My Day, My Rights.” Delivering the national address, Minister of State in the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services, Dr. Cassandra Williams, reminded the nation that children are not just the future but active citizens whose voices and rights must be protected now. The Minister highlighted efforts to strengthen child protection, including the Children Care and Adoption Bill of 2023 and the Child Justice Bill, which provide greater safeguards for vulnerable children and promote fairness and rehabilitation for those in conflict with the law. This year’s observance also features a youth debate aimed at encouraging children to express their views and participate in national conversations. Dr. Williams stressed that while government continues to improve laws and policies, every parent, teacher, neighbor, and mentor has a role to play in creating safe, nurturing environments. She urged all Dominicans to recommit to uplifting and protecting the nation’s children, ensuring they grow up in a society where they feel safe, heard, and valued.
