Government Strengthens Waste Management with New Truck Fleet

The Government of Dominica has handed over four new waste collection trucks to the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation (DSWMC) to improve efficiency and reduce delays in waste disposal. DSWMC General Manager Florian Mitchell said the vehicles fulfill a longstanding government pledge to modernize waste management and will be distributed across the island. He added, two more trucks are expected by December, bringing the fleet to eight. Environment Minister Cozier Frederick called the initiative part of Dominica’s commitment to keeping the island “clean and green,” urging citizens to sort waste properly, follow collection schedules, and avoid illegal dumping. He linked the move to the country’s “Nature Island” brand and ongoing investments in landfill upgrades, recycling, and public education. The expanded fleet is expected to ease collection backlogs and strengthen Dominica’s sustainability efforts amid growing tourism and development.
