Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit will move a motion in Parliament on Tuesday, October 14, seeking approval to bestow Dominica’s highest national honour—the Dominica Award of Honour—on the late Prime Ministers Roosevelt “Rosie” Douglas and Pierre Charles. The award recognizes their outstanding leadership and dedication to Dominica’s development, social justice, and community upliftment. The honours will be conferred posthumously during the official ceremony marking Dominica’s 47th anniversary of independence on November 3. Rosie Douglas served as Prime Minister in 2000 until his passing in October that year, followed by Pierre Charles, who led until his death in 2004. Meantime, Dominica’s Parliament will also consider key legislative matters. Lawmakers will debate amendments to the Money Laundering Prevention Act and the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism Act. Additionally, a new Bill establishing the Eastern Caribbean Citizenship by Investment Regulatory Authority will be introduced. Parliament will also move to approve the creation of a Sperm Whale Reserve in Dominica.
