The People’s Action Theatre is set to restage Alwin Bully’s iconic 1975 play Streak in celebration of its 50th anniversary. The revival seeks to reignite interest in Dominican theater while educating younger generations about the play’s social, political, and cultural significance. Performances will take place on November 1 and 2, 2025, at St. Gerard’s Hall, with tickets priced at EC$75. A pay-per-view option will also be available for audiences in the diaspora.
Organizers are appealing for continued community and corporate support, including sponsorship and resources, to ensure the success of the production and to advance theater development in Dominica, particularly the commissioning of the Arawak House of Culture. Speaking at the launch, Anita Bully, wife of Alwin Bully and Managing Director of Kaz Kweyol Productions, highlighted the play’s depiction of youth challenges and Dominican life, reflecting the social upheavals of its era, including influences from the Black Power and Nazism movements.The golden jubilee revival of Streak emphasizes the enduring relevance of theater as a tool for cultural reflection and preservation, showcasing the talents of both young and experienced artists with the support of the Dominican community.
