Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says government is moving ahead with plans for the construction of the Thea Lafond Sports Track in Portsmouth. Speaking at his monthly press conference, the Prime Minister said land acquisition and initial studies have been completed, with a master plan now being developed for the area. The facility will include an Olympic-sized swimming pool and other sporting amenities, transforming the site into a modern sports center. Skerrit explained that the aim is to ensure the project is properly designed and implemented to international standards, noting that the first phase will focus on establishing the track and field components. Meantime, work continues on installing new lighting at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, though the upgrades are not expected to be completed in time for the Independence celebrations as anticipated. Additionally, the refurbished tennis courts in Roseau have been fully resurfaced, with new lighting and fencing to follow, transforming the area into a national recreational and cultural hub.
