Cricket West Indies (CWI) Announces Major cuts to 2026 Tournament Calendar

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced major cuts to its 2026 tournament calendar in response to mounting financial pressures. CEO Chris Dehring confirmed that the board will eliminate the Under-17 tournaments, merge women’s competitions, and remove Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) along with the West Indies Academy from men’s events. Dehring explained that costly overseas tours to Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and New Zealand in 2026 will deepen financial losses, while only series against teams like India or England typically generate profits. Despite revenue from the 2024 T20 World Cup, those funds have already been used to cover player and tournament expenses. Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe acknowledged ongoing internal challenges but assured that youth events, such as the Under-19 tournaments, will continue to nurture emerging talent. CWI is now seeking financial relief through increased collaboration with CARICOM, regional governments, and corporate partners, while also lobbying the ICC for additional support to stabilize West Indies cricket.
